Silences<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The newborn won\u2019t cry
\nnot even after the surgery
\nto remove its rotting twin.
\nUnmade parents lying awake,
\n3am, exhausted in the dark.
\nThe father\u2019s quiet dressing,
\nslipping out into the cold grey
\ndawn, destination unknown,
\ntoo dazed to make a hard turn.
\nThe soft November snowfall
\nblanketing the overturned car.
\nFifteen frantic texts unseen,
\nmuted in a red-soaked coat.<\/p>\n

Recreation<\/strong><\/h4>\n

We would be two larks winging
\nour way through the Master’s
\nbest, you said. I’d be your Grace
\nKelly, your Audrey. Your eager eye
\ndocumenting our recreation, old-style
\neight-millimeter, hand-cranked.<\/p>\n

I don’t remember Grant getting naked
\nas he fled the marauding sky, flat
\nfields, drab motels, but a true auteur
\nis no script-slave. Spellbound, I shed
\nmy retro dress, hit the marks you ordered,
\namateur heart fluttering in its dark cage.<\/p>\n

But you’ve stopped wearing your tie,
\nyour ring. You’ve switched to digital
\nvideo, the cost of the darkroom too dear.
\nThe trunk of your old green Ford is filled:
\ncoils of rope and plastic sheets. The shower
\nscene is tomorrow, you smile. I’m silent,
\nskull-rehearsing my own altered script
\nas I lie beside you in the feather bed.<\/p>\n

I’m also very pleased that Attack From The 80s<\/em><\/a> (edited by Eugene Johnso<\/span>n<\/span>) was nominated in the Superior Achievement in an Anthology category. The anthology contains Lee Murray<\/span>‘s story “Permanent Damage,” which was separately nominated in the short fiction category, and my story “Munchies,” which has received acclaim from reviewers.<\/p>\n

\u201cMunchies\u201d by Lucy A. Snyder features a daring battle between a gaggle of drag queens and the gargantuan, reptilian menace of Nancy Reagan, who\u2019s come to devour their small Texas town.

\u201cMunchies\u201d by Lucy A. Snyder is a great story about a group of drag queens and the terror that was Nancy Reagan who has come to deliver a check to the local high school\u2019s antidrug drive.
