Writing Coaching

If you need a more detailed conversation about your work than you would receive from a manuscript critique, or if you would like help working through issues such as project planning, plotting, or writer’s block, we can set up coaching sessions.

Why should you hire me as a writing coach? I have a decade of experience working one-on-one with graduate students in Seton Hill University’s MFA program in Writing Popular Fiction. In addition to providing feedback on their manuscripts, I helped my students stay on the path to meeting their goals and helped them work out solutions to the life issues all writers face.

Lucy offers some of the most valuable, detailed feedback I’ve ever received in my writing career. I’ve had many writing teachers over the years, but Lucy was able to identify my weakness and show me what I needed to do to reach that next level. Ever since her mentorship, I’ve had several short fiction sales to markets I’ve been trying to crack for years, and I finally earned my Active SFWA membership!

Coaching can take place via email exchanges or we can schedule text chats, telephone calls, or Skype sessions. My price for coaching is $50/hour with a 1-hour minimum.

Before I started working with Lucy, I had hit a wall and wasn’t sure where my story was going. In fact, I had lost faith in my ability to finish writing my first novel. At our first mentorship meeting we had one of the most productive brainstorming sessions of my life. In about 30 minutes I not only knew where my story was going, but also learned that I had to kill one of my main characters. Her honesty and support, as well as her solid grasp of narrative, enabled me to finish my first novel and encouraged me to keep writing.
